Teaching Assistants

The Teaching Assistant (TA) Program is a volunteer leadership program at DAU. We train and develop our older, advanced dancers to work in a classroom setting, provide extra assistance to our DAU Staff and cultivate a positive experience for all of our DAU dancers. This program allows our students to learn from each other and to develop as leaders of the future. To be a teaching assistant at DAU, dancers must apply through the office and be selected based on previous dance criteria. Additionally, TAs meet a strict set of requirements each year which include training sessions, lesson planning, consistent class attendance, and an annual commitment to their assigned TA classes. Our TAs volunteer anywhere from one to five hours each week. DAU Teacher’s Assistants are extremely hardworking and dedicated to DAU. Instructing and caring for students, along with advancing their own education are the key drivers in their endless pursuit.

What are the Requirements?

All TAs must be at least 11 1/2 years old (by August 15, 2026), have been a DAU student for at least two years, and must be dancing at a level 1C or higher to apply.

Requirements to TA the following classes:

Creative Dance, Intro to Dance, Ballet/Jazz, Tap/Jazz (all Combo classes), all “Pre” and Intro to Lyrical/Intro to K-Pop classes: TAs must be at least 11 1/2 years old (by August 15, 2026), enrolled in at least one of the following: Ballet, Jazz, Tap, or Hip Hop (for Pre-Hip Hop), and leveled a 1C or higher.
Ballet/Tap/Hip Hop: TAs must be at least 12 years old and enrolled in a level 2 or higher of the same subject.
Jazz: TAs must be at least 12 years old and enrolled in both Ballet and Jazz at a level 2 or higher.
Lyrical: TAs must be at least 12 years old, and enrolled in Ballet, Jazz, and Lyrical at a level 2 or higher.
