Ms. Mimi
Ms. Ms. Mimi was raised in San Francisco and began training in a wide range of dance styles at a young age, including Hip Hop, Ballroom, and traditional cultural dances. While experienced in many genres, her greatest passion is Waacking, an underground hip hop dance style rooted in self-expression, musicality, and performance.
Throughout her dance career, she has competed at events such as Prelude NorCal, Collaboration, and World of Dance Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Finals. She later went on to perform with Tribe Dance Company from San Carlos, appearing in events such as the SF Hip Hop Dance Festival and productions including Hip Hop Cinderella and The Hip Hop Nutcracker. Most recently, she performed in the musical In the Heights with South Bay Musical Theatre.
Since joining Dance Academy USA’s Performance Team program, Ms. Mimi has helped expand and grow the program by introducing the Hip Hop teams and has since become the Assistant Director of the Performance Team program. In addition to studio teaching and performing, she has also worked teaching workshops and choreographing for South Bay schools including Kennedy Middle School, Cupertino Middle School, and Monta Vista High School.
Now focusing primarily on teaching, freestyling, and continuing to grow within her own style, Mimi is passionate about helping dancers not only strengthen their technique, but also build confidence, individuality, and a deeper connection to movement.
