2024 Recital Volunteer Sign-Ups

Interested in Volunteering at the 2024 Recital? Volunteers play a vital role in making the shows run smoothly.

For EACH show, we are looking for:

  • Creative, Intro to Dance, Pre Jazz, Pre Ballet and Pre Hip Hop: 2 volunteers per class

  • Tap/Jazz, Ballet/Jazz, Intro to Lyrical, Intro to K-Pop, Acro (6-9yr), Breakdance (5-8yr): 1-2 volunteers per class

  • All Leveled Classes (1, 1B, 1C, 2, 2B, 3, 4), plus K-Pop, Breakdance

    • We need a cross section of volunteers to help with these classes in each show. This will include approximately 6-8 volunteers with dancers in the 1st half of the show and 6-8 volunteers with dancers in 2nd half of the show (some may have dancers in both halves so there may be some cross over).

Need to know:

  • Volunteers do not buy tickets for the show they are volunteering in since they will be backstage, watching the performance from the side of the stage.

  • Volunteers are generally paired with their child(ren)’s class but may also be asked to help with other classes.

  • Duties vary depending upon where your child(ren)’s class is located in the backstage area, but will include:

    • Supervising a group of dancers, NOT just your own child(ren), throughout the entire show.

    • Assisting younger children to the restroom.

    • Assist DAU staff in getting dancers to the backstage area before they go stage and for the Finale. This includes walking the dancers from the upper levels down to the stage floor.

  • Volunteers will be asked to walk dancers to the balcony and supervise them, sitting with them to watch half of the show, and walk them back to the dressing rooms and/or get them ready for the Finale. This is to allow dancers who have only one dance in half of the show, to watch the half they are not dancing in.

  • Volunteers will receive a DAU lanyard with your name indicating the show(s) you are scheduled to work at.

    • Lanyards will be available for pick up the week of Recital (June 10-13) at the office or at the Volunteer Training on Friday, June 14th at the dress rehearsal.

    • Lanyards must be returned to DAU (basket in the lobby) at the end of the show you volunteer for.

    • No one will be allowed backstage without a lanyard, including non-dancing family members or younger siblings.

  • All volunteers must arrive at least 50 minutes before the start of the show and stay to the very end of the show to help line up dancers for the show Finale.

  • All volunteers must attend a brief walk-through training at dress rehearsal, Friday, June 14th. There will be one in the morning and one in the afternoon (time TBD).

  • Volunteer assignments and detailed information will be sent out closer to Recital Time.

Important Note: Volunteer assignments can fill up quickly so it is possible that we may not need your assistance if volunteer requirements have been fulfilled for a class. We realize this may impact the number of tickets you need to purchase so please sign up as soon as possible if you are interested in volunteering. Also, if you buy a ticket but then volunteer, the theater can process a refund for you.

If you have a child under the age of 6 and you are not comfortable with leaving them in someone else’s care, please consider volunteering for the show in which they perform.

Sign up by Friday, May 31st.

You may email Tami at tami@danceacademyusa.com or call the office at (408) 257-3211 if you have questions.
