2025 Recital Volunteer Sign-Up

Our recitals wouldn’t be possible without the help of our amazing volunteers!
If you'd like to be a part of making this special event run smoothly, we’d love to have you on our volunteer team.

Volunteering at recital is a fun, behind-the-scenes experience that helps ensure every dancer has a safe and positive performance day. Your time and support mean so much to our dancers, staff, and families — thank you!

What Is a Recital Volunteer?

Volunteers assist backstage during the recital show they sign up for. This includes:

  • Supervising groups of dancers before, during, and after the show

  • Helping dancers get to and from the stage for their routines and the finale

  • Assisting with basic needs like restroom breaks and handing out water/snacks

  • Ensuring a safe and organized backstage environment

You’ll be paired with your child’s class when possible, but may also be asked to help with other classes or general backstage needs.

How Many Volunteers Are Needed?

We need volunteers for each recital show, based on the size and age group of the class. Below is a breakdown of typical volunteer needs:

  • Creative Movement, Intro to Dance, Little Hip Hop
2–4 volunteers per class (based on class size)

  • Tap/Jazz, Ballet/Jazz, Pre Ballet, Pre Jazz, Pre Hip Hop, Intro to K-Pop, Intro to Lyrical, Acro (ages 6–9), Breakdance (ages 6–8)
    1–3 volunteers per class

  • All Leveled Classes (1, 1B, 1C, 2, 2B, 3, 4), K-Pop, Breakdance, High School Dance Team
6–8 total volunteers per show to support the Level 3 dressing room and general backstage flow

What to Know Before Signing Up

  • Volunteer assignments are first come, first served — if a class already has enough volunteers, we may not be able to place you.

  • All volunteers are required to attend one mandatory meeting the week before the recital at the studio plus a brief walk-through training at Dress Rehearsal on Friday, June 14th (morning and afternoon time options TBD).

  • Volunteers must arrive 1 hour before showtime and stay until the end to assist with the finale lineup.

  • Volunteers do not need a ticket for the show they are working in. You will be backstage and able to watch your child perform from the side of the stage.

  • If you buy a ticket and later sign up to volunteer, the theater can process a refund.

  • You’ll receive your specific assignment and detailed instructions closer to recital weekend.

Important Notes

  • Volunteers are typically paired with their own child(ren)’s class whenever possible. However, you may also be asked to assist with other classes or groups depending on overall needs.

  • Responsibilities will vary based on your dancer’s location backstage, but all volunteers can expect to:

    • Supervise a group of dancers — not just your own child(ren) for the entire duration of the show

    • Assist younger dancers with restroom trips

    • Help DAU staff escort dancers to the backstage area before their performance and the Finale (this includes walking dancers from the upper levels to the stage)

    • Distribute water and/or snacks as needed

  • All volunteers will receive a DAU volunteer lanyard labeled with your name and show assignment(s).

    • Lanyards will be available for pickup at the front office between June 9–12

    • Lanyards must be returned after the show by placing them in the designated basket in the lobby

  • For safety and security, only volunteers wearing a DAU lanyard are allowed backstage. This includes no access for non-performing family members, siblings, or guests.

  • If you have a dancer under the age of 6 and are not comfortable leaving them in someone else’s care, we strongly encourage you to volunteer for their show.
