Hi DAU Families!

We hosted our very first Silicon Valley Weekend Workshop on Saturday, February 6th. Fifty tappers from the South Bay joined Melinda Sullivan for an afternoon full of rhythm, style, and smiles. Melinda inspired each and every student – from beginner through advanced.

I watched with pride as our dancers pushed their comfort zones and reached new heights as artists. I could see the joy and accomplishment on their faces as they realized that they were able to do so much more than they had previously thought.Dancers

Francesca S. said that she was excited and a little scared to try a new style of tap. It made her feel “confident and accomplished” that the technical foundation she has received from DAU enabled her to successfully tackle a different style.

Dancers

In the Tap Jam, Melinda encouraged the kids to find their own “voice” through improvisation. Quillan C. said that she thought it was “so cool how you could really express yourself.” Similarly, Gracie B. was excited how Melinda’s different improvisational strategies “helped you be creative and think up new ways of making rhythms and steps.”

Tappers rocking their improvisational skills in the Tap Jam!

Wishing you and your family a very “Tappy” Valentine’s Day!

Love,

Ms. Jessica
