Clayton "Peg Leg" Bates
Famous Tapper:
Clayton “Peg Leg” Bates
By: Jacqueline H.

Clayton “Peg Leg” Bates is best known for his one-legged tap dancing. Bates lost his leg at the age of 12 but still was able to figure out how to keep tap dancing, even with a peg leg. During his life, he performed many times on The Ed Sullivan Show and performed for the King and Queen of England a few times as well. Clayton Bates is one of my tap inspirations because he proved that no matter what difficulties, you can succeed if you really put your mind to it.
