Most Frequently-Asked Questions

Q.	Where do I buy dance apparel and shoes?
A.	For younger children we recommend going to Payless Shoe stores for tap and ballet shoes; they are less expensive. Be sure that the ballet slippers are the pink leather kind, and tap shoes are black patent leather. For young children dance leotards may be purchased at Target or Penney’s. For older, more advanced students, shoes and dance apparel can be purchased at Victoria’s Dancewear on San Carlos in San Jose (they give us a 10% discount), Capezio in Vallco Mall/Cupertino Square, or the Capezio in Los Altos on the corner of El Monte and El Camino. Information regarding our Dress Code policies may be found by Clicking Here.

Q.	Do we allow trial classes?
A.	Generally, no. Older students may pay a $20/class drop-in fee with permission from the office. For younger students it takes more than one class to become accustomed to the class and teacher. Therefore, we recommend that you bring your child and watch the class through the windows from outside. Always check with the office staff to see if a class has space available.

Q. Do we allow make-up classes if students miss a class?
A.	No, we do not allow make-up classes for missed classes. Generally, a teacher does not teach 2 classes at the exact level, and there is no value in a student going into a stranger’s class. Also, many classes are full and cannot take another student, even for one week. If the studio has to cancel a class for any reason, we will arrange a make-up class.

Q.	Is there any fee for dropping or switching a class later in the year?
A.	There is no fee for adding any additional classes, but always check with the office about space availability before you fill out the Add/Drop form. Because each class has a different costume for the recital, if you change classes after costumes have been ordered, you will need to get another costume. As per the costume companies’ policies, the original costume may not be returned. Any time you drop a class, please notify the office by filling out the Add/Drop form and the office will notify the teacher. Please refer to the tuition policy in the Expenses section for changes to your tuition rate.

Q.	What is the latest possible time I can register my child?
A.	Depending on space available, you may generally register your child through March of each year. If costumes are unavailable, the child may not be in the recital, but it is still good to learn a routine.

Q.	Can I put my child in a different age group than he/she actually is?
A.	No, we have a range of ages in each class because we have found that generally those age groups work well together. Also, by adhering to the ages published, we are letting parents know that we honor those ages. The same is true for asking that your child be enrolled in a higher level class than the one in which he/she has been placed.

Q.	If my child is interested in trying out for the competition team, how do we do that?
A.	Auditions for Production Company (our award-winning competition team) are generally held in May. Applications will be available in the lobby or the office around the end of April. If your child is thinking about auditioning for Production Company, he/she should be taking multiple classes. You are welcome to speak with the office staff about the requirements and responsibilities of a Production Company member.DressCode.htmlExpenses.htmlshapeimage_1_link_0shapeimage_1_link_1
